Abstract

In this article, we seek to understand the phenomenon of migration of Filipino women who work as domestic workers in the city of São Paulo. Therefore, we carried out a literature review on the Filipino context of emigration, female migrations and care work. In addition, we did fieldwork in a meeting place for some immigrants in São Paulo, where we performed non-participant observation and obtained contacts for semi-structured interviews with 6 interlocutors. Our objective was to access their lives’ projects, meanings and social representations. Thus, we seek to articulate the globalization of the female workforce to provide care with the subjectivities and experiences of Filipino immigrants in São Paulo. In a global context, women move and take on life sustaining activities, combining the global economy, economic macro-politics and their own trajectories in the micro space of the home.
