Abstract

As part of this article, we present a review of the writings of the last five years (2016 – 2020) on the post-migration realities of Syrian refugees established in a new society. The results that will be presented in this article subsidized and guided the construction of a research project on the integration of Syrian refugees in Quebec. The bibliographic search was carried out in several databases, namely Web of Sciences, PsycINFO, Sociological Abstract, Social Sciences full text and Érudit. The keywords used were integrat OR resettlement OR settlement OR acculturation OR cross-inclusion with Syrian refuge. In addition, secondary resources, such as the websites of the EDIQ, SHERPA and CERDA research groups, were consulted to learn more about the Quebec reality. These recommendations made by the various studies are essential to take into account for future research. More broadly, the studies highlight the important and unique role of social work research in better understanding the experiences of Syrian refugees in their new society and recognizing the structural and cultural elements of political practices that may oppress these people. A better understanding of the needs and expectations of these refugees in relation to their integration process can improve the provision of services that meet their needs rather than only offering them services that promote an “integration” of the dominant culture.
