The article aims to contextualize the new social movements in the contemporary times and emphasize the role of immigrants and refugees as active agents in these organizations. There are countless transformations experienced by contemporary and globalized capitalist society. Among them, the need for greater reflection on the claim for inclusion of identities and groups that, for centuries, were made invisible and silenced, such as women, black, native and the LGBTQI+ communities. The grouping of these individuals in support and mobilization associations have been recognized today as new social movements, whose agenda revolve especially around the sociocultural appreciation. With reference to the theories of Tarrow (2009) and Tilly (1978) who recognize the role of social movements as agents of transformation, and of Marinucci (2016) who contribute to the debate by highlighting the collective struggles of immigrants in the search for equality. Thus, the aim here is to discuss the social activism of refugees and immigrants who are essential for the implementation of measures that guarantee the fulfillment of demands regarding the guarantee of their rights, freedom, social integration, in addition to combating xenophobia and other forms of discrimination.
