Abstract

This experience report from the Conviva Diferente Collective in Guaianases, São Paulo, highlights our work during the pandemic, focusing on food security for the peripheral migrant community. We began our activities in the neighborhood in 2016, offering Portuguese courses for Migrants. With the suspension of in-person classes in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we adapted to meet the emergency needs of the migrant community, especially with regard to food security. We organized the distribution of basic food baskets, masks, and hygiene kits, benefiting more than 130 families over two years. This initiative had a significant political impact by mobilizing several entities and strengthening partnerships with local organizations and churches, consolidating the importance of food security as a fundamental right. After the pandemic period, we expanded our activities to address issues related to access to public policies and established dialogue with other social agents involved with the migrant population.
