Abstract

This work is a kinship study undertook on a small rural community involved in the manufacturing of hammocks. It's an ethnography about kin relations between brothers living in a rural community in Paraíba and traveling for trade through Maranhão and Pará. The aim of this paper is to show how kin relations are intrinsically connected to trade relations and the similarities and differences that are so established. Such experiences are responsible for the sense of family, the social status and the insertion in capitalist society.
