Abstract

This article presents some considerations on the ethnic gypsy category highlighting that those identified by it have considerable cultural and sociological differences among each other. Based on an ethnographic research that includes families that classify themselves as calon, horarano, kalderash (among other forms of auto designation) and political leaderships, this articule shows the connections between state classifications, transnationals practices and subject whose process of identity constructions is related to general gypsy identity.
