Abstract

Considering that Brazilian society interpret the private space of home as a place that can shelter and ensure the security of its inhabitants, in opposition to the concept of street as a public space (DAMATTA, 1991), my study examines whether this characteristic of Brazilian culture is also present among Brazilian people who live abroad. This article looks at the importance of home in the migratory process of Brazilians to London and bases its discussion on data collected through ethnographic fieldwork and interviews done with a group of 10 young undocumented Brazilian immigrants.
