The article aims to make a literature review on the theme of people trafficking for sexual exploitation, having in view that this is an intense and polemic field of discussion, still in formation. It is divided in three parts: presentation of the institutional literature, in which predominates a juridical and political approach of national and international organizations; a social science interpretation, as in sociology, anthropology and cultural studies; NGOs’ and civil society organizations’ production, especially the Catholic Church’s, that come up from their action in the field. the publications in analysis are mainly available online, and we gave special attention to three relevant publications in the area of criminal law, cultural studies and of a research conducted by an international network of NGOs from Brazil, Dominican Republic and Suriname.
