Abstract

This article presents an explanatory study with the analysis of data from 620 Haitians, who were received in the emergency reception in Missão Paz between January and July, 2015. The analyzed registers were the copies of the identification documents of the immigrants and the answers they give to the social assistants’ questions in the moment they arrive in Missão Paz. The main objective of this work is to contribute to the study of the Haitian Immigration to Brazil, with the primary data that were provided by Missão Paz. The secondary objectives are to contribute to the creation and implementation of public policies that fit the different needs of this population and to inform the academy, the civil society and the decision makers about the situation of the Haitians in São Paulo. The articles’ principal conclusions are that the analyzed Haitian migratory flux was predominant male; the ask for asylum was the main alternative of migratory regularization in Brazil and the Haitian population that arrived in the country were in the most productive age, but, it was not always inserted in the labor market according to its qualification.
