This paper is a case report about the Coletivo Conviva Diferente, a multidisciplinary team of Portuguese teachers for migrants that has been working at CEU Jambeiro, in Guaianases, since 2016. The volunteer team is part of the work developed by the Coletivo, which has been working since 2014 with migrants, mainly Haitians and Africans from different countries. Analyzing the immigration process, we identified that one of the biggest barriers faced upon arrival in the new country is the difficulty of communication, i.e., understanding the local language. This difficulty restricts their access to essential information, an important condition for their integration and minimum structuring in the country to obtain decent housing and employment.
