Abstract

This article investigates Venezuelan migration to the state of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on the period from 2018 to 2024, aiming to fill gaps in the scientific literature regarding this migratory flow in the Fluminense territory. To understand the issue, the research revisits historical and political aspects of Venezuela from the 20th to the 21st century, with special attention to the recent emigration to Brazil and other Latin American countries. Furthermore, the study discusses the role of the “Operação Acolhida” program, which relocates Venezuelan migrants across Brazil through specific screening centers. Using data from the Interiorization Panel (R4V) and the National Migration Registry System (SISMIGRA) of the Federal Police, the study presents the spatial distribution of immigrants across municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the particularities of their routes. Finally, the article outlines aspects of actually Venezuelan politics and presents some projections regarding the country’s migratory, economic, and political.
