Although Brazilian community in London is thought to be of considerable size, little is yet known about Brazilians who live and work in London. This article reports on the results of a research conducted on Brazilian Londoners in 2006 with a view to sketching a socio-economic profile. The study was the first of its kind, providing data about 423 Brazilians. The results reveal that Brazilians researched tend to be young, recently arrived, with men and women moving to London in search of better economic opportunities. Given the restrictions imposed by immigration rules, many will become irregular immigrants in order to pursue their aims of earning and saving to be able to return home capitalized. Most are relatively well-educated, with a middle-class or lower-middle class background in Brazil and the majority work in lowskilled or unskilled jobs in London, earning either the minimum wage or above it.
